This blog exists just as a way for me to share things that God is showing me, whether through study, or reading, or even just in normal life.  I won’t say much (if anything at all) that is very profound.  I’m just hoping through this that I can encourage other people out there like me, who are moving along through life.

I would like to explain why I named this “Doomed To Fail.”  The title may sound depressing or disheartening, but actually the exact opposite is my aim.

I will use the Presbyterians “Confession of Faith” to help out here.  Chapter 10, Section 3 says: “Man, by his fall into a state of sin, hath wholly lost all ability of will to any spiritual good accompanying salvation; so as a natural man being altogether averse from that good, and dead in sin, is not able, by his own strength, to convert himself, or to prepare himself thereunto.”

To put it basically, because of our sinful nature, and our deadness spiritually, we can do nothing to save ourselves from that sin.  Everything we try to do on our own is doomed to fail.  Only God, through Jesus death and resurrection, can bring us into right relationship with him.

But wait a second, where did I come up with this sinful nature stuff?  Check it out:

Romans 3:10 “As it is written, None is righteous, no not one.  No one understands; no one seeks for God.  All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.”

Psalm 14:1-3 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”  They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.  The Lord looks down on Heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.  They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.”

While we humans are “doomed to failure” when it comes to salvation, God is not.  Here is the promise for those who have faith in him:

Romans 5:12-21 “Therefore just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned, for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.  Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.  But the free gift is not like the trespass.  For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.  And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin.  For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.  For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.  Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men. so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.  For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.  Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished on us, in all wisdom and insight…”

As you read all of that, you still may not understand where I’m coming from.  That’s OK, I invite you along on this journey anyway, that together we can unlock some of the mystery of the Gospel of Christ together!
